Suspension of Pupils
The Hudson School Board recognizes that suspension and expulsion may be used as method of managing a safe and orderly school.  Suspension may be imposed when other means of correction have failed, or when keeping the student in school would be detrimental to himself or the general welfare of the school and its student body.

Before any student is dismissed, he/she should be afford due process and informed as to the reasons for the proposed suspension.  The student will be given the opportunity to respond.  Should a suspension be for more than ten (10) days, the student and at least one of his parents will be offered a formal hearing with sufficient time to prepare a defense or reply.  No suspension will begin until parent(s) are informed.  Parents may appeal any suspension beyond ten (10) days to the School Board is they so desire.

The Hudson School Board recognizes that in accordance with RSA 193:13, the Superintendent or designee in writing by the Superintendent, is authorized to suspend pupils from school for a period not to exceed 10 school days for gross misconduct or for neglect or refusal to confirm to reasonable rules of the school.  The School Board hereby authorizes the Superintendent to delegate that responsibility to the principals or their assistants for a maximum of ten (10) days.

Any suspension in excess of ten (10) days must be administered by the Superintendent of Schools.  The Superintendent shall have discretion regarding extending suspension for a period of ten (10) additional days, not to exceed 20 days total.  Parents will be provided, either in person or in writing, written notice of the charges and nature of evidence against the student.  Parents will be provided with the opportunity for a formal hearing, after sufficient time to prepare a reply.  Hearings may be held in public if the accused student so requests.

Expulsion
Any pupil may be expelled from school by the School Board for gross misconduct, or for neglect or refusal to conform to reasonable rules of the school of the school, or for an act of theft, destruction, violence (as defined by RSA 193-D:1), possession of a pellet or BB gun, rifle, or paint ball gun.  The pupil may not attend school until restored by the School Board.  Any expulsion shall be subject to review and request prior to the start of each school year.  Further, any parent or guardian has the right to appeal any such expulsion by the School Board to the NH State Board of Education.

Any pupil who brings or possesses a firearm (as defined by the Safe Schools Zone RSA 193-D: 1) shall be expelled from school by the School Board for a period of not less than 12 months.  Any pupil expelled by another School Board in New Hampshire or another state, for possession of a firearm, will not be admitted to the Hudson Public Schools during that period of expulsion.
