How much does that pumpkin weigh?

Alvirne Students Speaking to First GradersIn celebration of the fall harvest season the Alvirne High School Agriculture Business students visited Ms. Albert and Ms. Clawson’s first grade classes on Tuesday, October 25. The high school students had a pumpkin weighing competition with the first graders. After teaching the students about pumpkins each first grader guessed how much the pumpkin weighed.

After weighing the pumpkin and seeing if you guessed correctly each first grade student received a small pumpkin. The Alvirne Agriculture Business students thank McQueston Farm for their help in this endeavor.

On Monday, November 21 2011, all Alvirne High School ninth grade students will participate in a CU4 Reality™ Financial Education Fair . The CU 4 Reality™ curriculum creates a fun and interactive learning environment where students can practice specific financial management skills and learn early-on the consequences of getting in over their heads when it comes to financial matters. Prior to the fair, students will have researched and selected a career.  At the fair more than 330 students will complete a monthly spending plan as they visit employers representing various categories of expenses they can expect to incur.

Students need to make decisions about how much to allocate for items such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, insurance, savings, investments, entertainment and credit.  Students will also be presented with spending temptations and have to make choices based on their own values, goals and resources. The fair is being sponsored and managed by Granite State Credit Union and Triangle Credit Union.

For more information about CU 4 Reality, you can visit their website.
