Deb Luszey Recognized as VFW Teacher of the Year

Teacher of The YearOn behalf of the Hudson School District, we would like to congratulate Mrs. Deborah Luszey   as VFW Teacher of the Year - Middle School level.  At a ceremony held in January, Ms. Luszey was nominated by the Hudson VFW Men’s Aux. 5791 and was the VFW recipient of the Voice of Democracy Award for the state of NH.  Each year three exceptional teachers are recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for their outstanding commitment to teach Americanism and patriotism to their students.

The VFW annually recognizes the nation’s top classroom elementary, middle high and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics—at least half of the school day in a classroom environment—and promote America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively.  Ms. Luszey is an eighth grade mathematics teacher at Hudson Memorial School.  At an event on April 9, 2012, Ms. Luszey and Coronel Kevin Grady, AHS JR-AFROTC Teacher will be recognized at the Hudson VFW local post for their contributions.

Twins! Oh my!

Yvette, a favorite amongst Alvirne students, gave birth to two healthy twin calves on January 4, 2012. The first born was a heifer (a girl) and minutes later the second born was a bull (a boy). Mom and babies are doing great!

Did you know there are two types of twins? Fraternal and identical. Fraternal twins originate from two separate eggs where as identical twins occur when one fertilized egg splits. Fraternal twins are more common than identical. Only 10% of twin claves are identical. In addition fraternal twins that are of different sexes, the female is very unlikely to be fertile. It is estimated that 95% of the heifers born twin to a bull are not fertile and are called freemartins.

On Monday, November 21 2011, all Alvirne High School ninth grade students will participate in a CU4 Reality™ Financial Education Fair . The CU 4 Reality™ curriculum creates a fun and interactive learning environment where students can practice specific financial management skills and learn early-on the consequences of getting in over their heads when it comes to financial matters. Prior to the fair, students will have researched and selected a career.  At the fair more than 330 students will complete a monthly spending plan as they visit employers representing various categories of expenses they can expect to incur.

Students need to make decisions about how much to allocate for items such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, insurance, savings, investments, entertainment and credit.  Students will also be presented with spending temptations and have to make choices based on their own values, goals and resources. The fair is being sponsored and managed by Granite State Credit Union and Triangle Credit Union.
